Using cut out shapes students find area, perimeter, and degrees of angles
Grades(s) 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
Subjects(s) Arts, Math
Objective
Students will accurately measure and label geometric shapes.
Materials
1. Cut out shapes (triangles, rectangles, etc.)
2. Rulers for each student
3. Protractors for each student
Lesson
This is an assessment lesson.
1. Review finding area and perimeter for the shapes you are studying.
2. Review measuring angles using a protractor.
3. Cut out a variety of shapes. Measure and label each one for your convenience when grading. Shapes could be color coded or numbered.
4. Pass out three shapes to each student.
5. Students trace each shape onto paper. They then find the length of each line, the perimeter of each shape, the area of each shape, and the degrees of each angle. Students label each shape with the correct information. Have them write the type of shape under it.
Assessment
This is an assessment lesson. It can be used as a test or daily grade.
As an additional activity, students could choose five shapes and use in a creative art design
